Extra lumber is not safer

A thicker board feels like insurance. On the dock it is often just weight, cost, and a stack that does not match the trailer. We chop and resaw at 202 Day St, West Springfield. New wood, spec’d to the load. Not a used deck. Not extra lumber “in case.”
What overbuilding actually does
You pay for board you do not need. Freight goes up. The fork still fails if the pattern is wrong. A 48×40 with extra decking does not fix a long or point-loaded part. The constraint was the footprint or the fork, not the invoice on one more 2x.
What we do instead
Weight, how it sits, how it ships. A computerized load analysis. Stringer or block when the dock says so. Heat-treat if it exports — NeLMA ISPM 15, no fumigation. Same plant cuts industrial lumber and builds the crate to the piece.
